Le sei mani il cui titolo italiano deriva dal fatto che furono sei gli autori di entrambi i racconti, fu scritto tra il 1930 e il 1931 e oltre ad essere pubblicato fu trasmesso all’interno del settimanale radiofonico della BBC The Listener.
Lo scoop, scritto da Dorothy L. Sayers, Agatha Christie, Clemence Dane, E.C. Bentley, Anthony Berkeley e Freeman Wills Crofts (ognuno dei quali ha scritto due dei dodici capitoli che compongono l’opera), si apre con un omicidio su cui indaga un giornalista di cronaca nera di un quotidiano londinese a sua volta ucciso all’interno di una cabina telefonica di Victoria Station.
